Bourdeau appointed to Champions Trophy 2015
19.58The Professional Football League and Montreal Impact announced that Paris Saint-Germain and Olympique Lyonnais will compete for the 2015 Champions Trophy at the Saputo Stadium in Montreal, on Saturday, 1 August 2015. The Champions Trophy is traditionally played between the champions of Frances Ligue 1 and the winner of the Coupe de France. If the same team wins both competitions, the regulation provides that the match oppose the champions of Ligue 1 to the club who finished second in the championship of France. Paris Saint-Germain, France champion of Ligue 1 for the 2014-15 season and winner of the Coupe de France 2015, will be opposed to Olympique Lyonnais, who finished second in the championship.
The Champions Trophy was established in 1995 and was played in France until 2009, when Girondins Bordeaux beat Guingamp 2-0 in Montreal. After two editions in North America (Montreal, 2009, New York 2012), three in Africa (Tunis, 2010, Tangier, 2011, Libreville, 2013) and one in Asia (Beijing 2014), the LFP has decided to organize the Champions Trophy for the second time in Montreal. As in almost every edition, a referee crew from the host country has been appointed to officiate the Champions Trophy. After Steven DePiero in 2009, Mathieu Bourdeau (photo) will be the second Canadian referee to lead a Champions Trophy. Born in 1980, Mathieu Bourdeau is a FIFA referee since this year. He will be assisted by Daniel Belleau, FIFA assistant referee since 2007, and Richard Gamache. Francis Latullipe will be the fourth official. Note that Mathieu Bourdeau was fourth official for the Champions Trophy in 2009, while Daniel Belleau was an assistant referee in that match.
