Tibbo � the first Canadian FIFA Referee Instructor for futsal and beach soccer
10.32Besides being a member of both FIFA and CONCACAF Referees Committees, former World Cup assistant referee Hector Vergara is also a FIFA referee instructor for soccer. Recently, another Canadian, Bob Tibbo, became a FIFA referee instructor for futsal and beach soccer. Last summer, he was chosen to represent Canada at a six-day FIFA Futuro III course for beach soccer and futsal referee instructors in Costa Rica. More than 20 participants from 17 CONCACAF-affiliated member associations attended the conference, which focused on the continued development of match officiating in both versions of the sport. With CONCACAF�s clear commitment to elevating beach soccer and futsal in the region, the referee instructors received high-quality training from FIFA instructor Jesus Rubio. Through multiple presentations, practical examples and engaging teaching techniques, the instructors were equipped with the tools to disseminate suitably what they absorbed upon their return home. Following that course, CONCACAF selected Tibbo to attend a FIFA seminar that took place in conjunction with the Beach Soccer Intercontinental Cup in Dubai, where he became a FIFA referee instructor for futsal and beach soccer.
In December 2014, Bob Tibbo returned to Costa Rica for a four-day FIFA course for futsal referee instructors, where 20 participants from 18 countries across the globe convened to receive instruction on a multitude of topics. The program was led by Fernando Tresaco, FIFA�s Head of Referee Development, and instructor Jesus Rubio, assisted by Serdar Akcer. They were joined by Jaime Yarza (FIFA Senior Manager of Futsal and Beach Soccer Competitions), Ronald Gutierrez (FIFA RAP Development Officer), Dominic Chielens (FIFA Refereeing Department Coordinator) and Victor Estrada (UNCAF Development Officer). A variety of methods were utilized to address subject areas, which included assessor reporting, game analysis, rules and game analysis.
